eBay TV Delayed Again When it was first announced in 2001, "eBay-TV" was set to capitalize on the hippest and hottest brand in e-commerce. Two years later, the show, from Sony Pictures Television, still hasn't premiered and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, its launch date has been pushed back once again, this time to fall 2004.
Apparently the various delays have been caused by stations slow to install the eBay e-commerce platform central to the show. In addition to installation, each individual station airing the program would require extensive training on how to integrate the eBay software and would then need to register viewers in their areas in order to be successful. "It is my understanding that the eBay software will become a component of the station's own website and that the station's eBay co-branded Web site will be a hyperlink to eBay," says Bill Carroll, vice president and director of programming at Katz Television in New York. "Stations would have a profit participation in terms of new subscriptions to eBay and then through stuff that is sold through the site."
Sony has described "eBay TV" as a mix of "Antiques Roadshow" and "Entertainment Tonight," combining auctions and celebrity.
